Wraith redone

I wanted to reupload this painting now that I have worked on the wraith monster some more. It took some time of this piece hanging up for me to decide what I wanted to do with it, and some time spent reshading the monster to get the contrast I wanted. I also used nice pencils this time, which had a noticeable difference in the quality of the piece from the first time I drew it. I really love this piece, even a year later, because of how the watercolors reacted with the tissue paper squares in the buildings. These were made with my professional set of watercolors, and this painting is still one of the only ones I have completed with those paints. I like to save them for important projects, so as not to waste their beautiful pigments. Just remember, if a piece doesn't seem quite finished, but you aren't sure how to finish it, hang it up somewhere where you will be surprised by it. Each time you see it, the split second reaction to it is your true feelings, and can help you decide how to finish the painting.

Abstract lined watercolors

I am trying to paint often on my mixed media papers, so I can have enough to make a portfolio soon. I was digging though a box today and found some art supplies, including multiple sets of watercolor pans. I colored this piece with one of those sets I found. I added the lines with acrylic paint, by stamping painted corrugated cardboard. I then embellished and added new lines with colored pencils. There is some texture achieved with a couple rectangles of paper that were glued down in the beginning and partially blended in with the watercolors.

Explosive Thought

This piece was done using ink and watercolor on aquaboard. It is titled Explosive Thought.

Tummy ache

This piece is titled Tummy ache, and was inspired by the show Monsters inside me. It is painted with watercolor and ink. Poor guy, looks like he had a rough day.

Chasing Yourself

This is a mashed together monster, made of a cat, a dog, and a mouse. It was done with watercolor and ink on aquaboard. This piece is titled Chasing Yourself

Watercolor monster

I just got all my new supplies today, I now own over a gallon of pouring medium and a half gallon of gesso. I am stocked up, and ready for some late nights painting. I ordered some new watercolors as well, which I love. I have started sketching monsters again, like I used to in high school, and now I am watercolor painting them as well. Stay tuned for a bunch of monster pieces in this style.

Here is an abstract watercolor that finished drying overnight. This one is also painted on an aquaboard. I am really enjoying painting watercolors again.

Here is another abstract watercolor painting I just finished, also on aquaboard. This board is awesome, but is doing strange things to my watercolor pigments, breaking them up in a way i've never seen before. I like it for this style of painting, but will have to investigate more the exact reason behind this reaction.

Abstract watercolor

This is an abstract watercolor I did on these new aquaboards I just got. They work better than any heavy watercolor paper I have used, don't bend or warp, and lift without tearing fibers. I'm excited to keep using these, they were a great purchase. Here are two pictures, one with flash and one without to show the color and detail. I really need a better way to take higher quality pictures more often.

This picture was painted with my pan watercolors, like all the portraits, I actually prefer these to the tubes, because it is easier to get a richer, darker color.

Here is a another watercolor portrait I did with my watercolors last year. I really want to start these up again, since I took a hiatus from people. I want to practice facial structures some more.

Abstract watercolor

This piece was done with a number of techniques. The colors are watercolors, the squares are made with tissue paper and made to look like windows with the use of self-leveling gel. This painting is also on display at my parent's house.

Monster watercolor

This is the start of another monster, done with watercolor and ink. It needs some more detail, but was fun to create. I like drawing different monster body parts and then piecing them together.

This was done a little while back, when I was practicing the human form. I drew her in china pencil, and colored the whole painting with watercolors.

This painting was inspired when I visited my friend at an art school in columbus. I painted this there, and it one of the few pieces I have titled. This is called, the time out chair. It was done in watercolor and pen.

Monster in a city

I am a fan of creepy, broken down images, monsters and the like. This was a piece I did a little while back with these beautiful watercolor paints my parents got me from paris. They were done over tissue paper squares, to make the dilapidated city. Then I added the monster floated above the buildings. This is one of my favorite combinations of creepy and bright colors. 

Abstract planets

I just found an abstract watercolor I did about a year ago, and added some texture gels to create the planets in the sky. It really can help to put a piece away for awhile and look at in later with fresh eyes and fresh supplies.

Recycling

I was digging through an old box of art supplies and paintings, and I found this watercolor planet and tree painting I did right after I started this whole artistic adventure, a little over a year ago. I also found a frame I had picked up at a garage sale, and thought they looked nice together. It is a merging of the old with the older.
